I am a technical writer with many years of experience writing documents for the electronics industry, such as data sheets, quick start guides, user guides, software manuals, release notes, and online help.

I have over 10 years of experience creating documentation for various types of networking products:
  • Gateways, routers, switches, and wireless access points
  • ISP backhaul equipment (radios and antennas)
  • Digital cameras and security devices
  • LED lighting devices
  • Software applications used to control the above devices
Other types of products I have documented include:
  • Application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) devices for wired and wireless products (10 years)
  • Storage area network (SAN) products (3 years)
  • Notebook computers and peripherals (2 years)
My audiences range from technical readers (installers and IT staff) to non-technical end users. A native speaker, I write clear, easy to understand text with a natural flow. Applying expert proofreading and editing skills helps me ensure quality in all publicly distributed documents including marketing collateral, web site content, and even embedded text strings in software applications.

With a lifelong interest in languages (I maintain approx. B2/C1 CEFR proficiency in German), I enjoy working with localized documents, where my experience includes the following:
  • At Ubiquiti I oversaw the localization of our technical documentation, liaising with our translation agency to translate our documents into anywhere from seven to 24 languages.
  • At Cisco, I learned InDesign ME (for Middle Eastern languages) and trained others in its use, allowing us to use translated Arabic text to lay out documents in-house, for a savings of $3000 per User Guide. I also worked on numerous localization projects targeting the EMEA region.
  • At Leica Biosystems, I migrated documents from InDesign to MadCap Flare, including translations in 16 languages including both body text and text in graphics.

I migrated this User's Guide from InDesign to MadCap Flare and single sourced the content (both text and graphics). I also used Flare to perform layout in sixteen languages and MadCap Capture to localize image callouts.
